Yes, that’s how they spell it. Dream Yosacoy — as you can tell from the name — is a bit different. While most outdoor dance festivals are held during the hot summer months, this one is on the cusp of winter. It’s a big deal though. The festival usually attracts 500,000 spectators and 7,000 dancers split into 100 teams.
2022 will be a hybrid event with free online viewing and paid spectator seats.
What is yosakoi?
Although the large group size and the doing things in unison thing might seem a bit regimental, yosakoi is one of the more flexible Japanese dance forms with teams incorporating contemporary fashion, hairstyles, costumes, and dance moves into the traditional art form.
Tickets
All performances will require a ticket. Depending on which performance you have your eye on, you may need several tickets. The 2022 schedule can be found on their website for Saturday and Sunday.
Odaiba Statue of Liberty performance
On both Saturday and Sunday, there will be two performances per day in front of Yurikamome Daiba Station.
Non-reserved seats are ¥2,800 and reserved seats are ¥3,500 per performance. This ticket will give you free access to other performances on the day. For Saturday, you’ll get access to the Aqua City Odaiba performances (7F rooftop at 12 p.m to 3:30 p.m.) with a standing free pass, and if you buy a ticket for Sunday, you’ll get access to the Marunouchi venue (Gyoko-dōri at 9:30 a.m to 12 p.m.).
Tickets are available on the Pia website here. On the day tickets are also available but only at the Odaiba Statue of Liberty venue (in front of Yurikamome Daiba Station).
Fuji TV Performance
You will need to pay a separate fee for the Fuji TV performances. Two performance each day will be held on the grand stairs on both Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets are available on the day only and cost ¥1,000. All profits will be donated to Orange Ribbon Movement, a charity that combats child abuse.
