Every year on January 7 at Matsuchiyama Shoden in Asakusa, there is a service for the god Shōden where daikon radishes are offered up as a symbol of his work. But the festival doesn’t stop there; soon after, the daikon is chopped up and made into a special dish called furofuki — sliced radish with miso sauce on top — and given to visitors.
It is said that by eating this dish you will gain some of the health and power of the god himself.
This year the furofuki will be split into its seperate parts (daikon and miso) and offered to the first 1,000 people (as opposed to the usual 2,000) — you must take it home to cook and eat. No sake will be given (as usually customary).
When is it?
The memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. and the dishing out of the furofuki will begin just after that as around 11:30 a.m.

Matsuchiyama Shoden is only a 10-minute walk from Asakusa Station.
