Marunouchi Illumination 2023

3:00pm – 11:00pm
Free

Each year from late autumn until mid-February, the trees along the Marunouchi area’s Nakadori Avenue are strewn with around 1.2 million fairy lights to give the area an extra special winter feel.

What is there to see and do?

In addition to lighting up the naked branches, there are illuminated sculptures on the sidewalks, an ice-skating rink, a miniature merry-go-round (seats only), local mascot Maru-kun, a piano, and stalls selling sausages, mulled wine, and treats.

In the Marunouchi Building you will find an 8-meter-tall Christmas tree inspired by clocks. On the third floor, there’ll also be projection mapping to celebrate famous singer Yumi Matsutoya.

While you’re in the area, check out the White KITTE and Hibiya Magic Time Illumination light displays.

Where is it?

As soon as you come out of the main Tokyo Station Building, you’ll be facing where you need to go, but if you get lost, Nakadori Street stretches from the Tokyo Kotsu Kaikan shopping mall in front of Yurakucho Station and ends at Otemachi Nakadori. The whole stretch is around 1.2 km.

Note: In the month of December the illuminations will run until midnight but revert to the 11 p.m. switch-off in January.
